Booking your first podcast recording session is exciting β but it's normal to feel a little unsure about what actually happens when you walk through the door. Here's a straightforward breakdown of what to expect so you can show up confident and ready to create.
Before You Arrive
Once your session is booked, you'll receive a confirmation with all the details you need β location, parking info, and what's included in your package. Take a few minutes to review it so there are no surprises on the day.
A few things to prepare in advance:
- Episode outline or talking points β You don't need a word-for-word script, but having a loose structure keeps your session on track and your recording time efficient.
- Guest coordination β If you're recording with a guest, share the studio address and parking details ahead of time.
- Water β Staying hydrated keeps your voice clear. Most studios will have water available, but it's always good to bring your own.
When You Arrive
Plan to arrive 10β15 minutes before your session starts. This gives you time to get settled, do a quick sound check, and get comfortable in the space before recording begins.
At Perspective Studio Productions, our team will walk you through the setup β microphone placement, headphone levels, and how to use the recording equipment. You don't need any technical experience; we handle the technical side so you can focus on your content.
During the Session
Once you're set up and levels are checked, it's time to record. A few things to keep in mind:
- It's okay to pause and restart β If you stumble over a word or lose your train of thought, just pause, take a breath, and pick up from where you left off. Editing takes care of the rest.
- Speak naturally β The microphone will pick up your voice clearly. You don't need to project like you're on stage; just talk the way you normally would in a conversation.
- Avoid rustling and tapping β Papers, jewellery, and tapping on the desk can all be picked up on mic. Keep movement minimal while recording.
- Watch your time β Keep an eye on how long you've been recording so you have enough time to wrap up naturally before your session ends.
After the Session
Depending on the package you've chosen, your session may include raw audio files, edited content, or both. Your files will be delivered based on the turnaround included in your package.
If you have questions about editing, file formats, or what comes next, just ask β we're happy to walk you through it.
